In the sci-fi drama “Blood Free,” we follow the journey of Yoon Ja Yoo (played by Han Hyo Joo), a CEO with fabricated genetics, who faces numerous death threats. To protect herself, she hires Woo Chae Won (played by Ju Ji Hoon) as her bodyguard.
Filled with futuristic settings, the director faced various challenges during production. Interestingly, the director was unaware of the final cast lineup for the project. Here’s what the director had to say:
1. The Director’s Surprise at the Star-Studded Cast
Now featuring Ju Ji Hoon, Han Hyo Joo, and Lee Hee Jun, the director confessed to not knowing who the actors were initially. Director Park Cheol Hwan expressed his astonishment upon learning that renowned artists had joined the project.
“When I began this project, I was unaware of the actors until they came on board. Discovering that such esteemed artists were involved was a pleasant surprise. With a stellar script and talented actors, what more could I ask for?” said the director during a press conference.
2. Ju Ji Hoon’s Involvement in Action Scenes
Ju Ji Hoon actively participated in the action sequences of “Blood Free.” Having experience in the action genre, Ji Hoon found the action scenes challenging as they required a sense of agility.
“Together with the director, Director of Photography, and art director, we aimed to create a setting that felt futuristic yet relatable. Crafting detailed sets, especially for the action scenes, was particularly demanding. We wanted them to feel futuristic while resonating with the audience,” explained Ju Ji Hoon.
He further added, “We deliberated on the action genre, ensuring that while there are intense sequences, there are also moments of light choreography to add realism.”
3. Embracing a Futuristic Concept
Director Park Cheol Hwan revealed that “Blood Free” embraces a futuristic theme. Despite its futuristic elements, the director assured that the audience would still find the story relatable.
“In our discussions, we aimed for a portrayal of the not-so-distant future, where AI plays a significant role. This adds a sense of familiarity to the narrative,” explained the director.
