Unit One’s suspicions are validated: the attackers are Baek Do Seok and two accomplices. Baek Do Seok, a corrupt ex-soldier, masterminds the assault, aided by Choi Dal Sik, Unit One’s leader and Chief Yu’s superior at Jongnam police station.
5. Motive Behind the Attack
Baek Do Seok’s motivation stems from a promised promotion at Jongnam police station. Choi Dal Sik, seeking advancement, views Chief Yu as an obstacle due to the latter’s knowledge of his pro-Japanese affiliations.
In unraveling the case, Park Yeong Han uncovers Baek Do Seok’s connection to a past incident involving a pregnant woman, setting the stage for a showdown in Chief Detective 1958.
