Editor's Review
La Cuisine revolves around two main characters: Ram and Lukchup. Ram, a third-year architecture student, is not only good-looking and filthy rich but also the popular guy on campus. However, he has an unexpected quirk: he’s a picky eater. The usual fare doesn’t satisfy his discerning taste buds. On the other hand, Lukchup, a cute junior with chubby cheeks, studies Food and Nutrition. He secretly harbors a crush on Ram but lacks the courage to confess. Fate intervenes, bringing them together through food and Thai desserts—a bond that transcends culinary delights.
What Works
- Food as a Love Language: La Cuisine beautifully explores the idea that food can be a powerful connector. The series weaves together cooking, flavors, and emotions, emphasizing how shared meals can create intimacy and understanding. Whether it’s Lukchup’s homemade dishes or the tantalizing street food, each culinary moment feels significant.
- Character Chemistry: The chemistry between Ram and Lukchup is palpable. Their interactions range from playful banter to heartfelt confessions. As they bond over cooking sessions and late-night conversations, viewers become invested in their relationship. The slow burn romance is endearing and keeps you rooting for them.
- Supporting Characters: Beyond the central couple, La Cuisine introduces a colorful cast of characters. From Ram’s quirky friends to Lukchup’s supportive family, each person adds depth to the story. Notably, the drama avoids one-dimensional villains, opting for nuanced character arcs.
- Visual Aesthetics: The cinematography deserves applause. Whether it’s capturing the sizzle of a stir-fry or the delicate arrangement of desserts, the visuals enhance the sensory experience. The attention to detail in food presentation is mouthwatering.
Room for Improvement
- Pacing: Some viewers found the pacing uneven. While the initial episodes build anticipation, there are moments when the story drags. Additionally, certain subplots could have been explored further to enrich the overall narrative.
- Character Development: Although Ram and Lukchup’s relationship is well-developed, secondary characters receive less attention. A deeper exploration of their backstories and motivations would have added depth.
- Resolution: Without giving away spoilers, the resolution in the final episode left some fans wanting more. A clearer wrap-up for all character arcs would have been satisfying.
Overall Verdict
La Cuisine is a heartwarming BL drama that celebrates love, food, and the joy of shared moments. If you’re a fan of slow-burn romance, delectable dishes, and characters who grow on you, this series is worth a watch. Just be prepared to crave Thai cuisine afterward!
In summary, La Cuisine serves up a delightful blend of romance, culinary passion, and genuine connections. It’s a feast for the heart and the taste buds alike.
