“Ice Fantasy Destiny” transports the epic fantasy adventure story into a modern-day setting. Set in the year 2020, the drama follows the reincarnation of Kasuo as Feng Suo, the head of a high technology company. As Feng Suo unlocks memories of his past life, he regains his power, igniting a new chapter in the history of the ice and fire tribe.

The Good:

  1. Emotional Impact: Despite its flaws, “Ice Fantasy Destiny” manages to evoke emotions. There are meaningful messages woven into the storyline, making viewers feel connected to the characters and their struggles.
  2. Memorable Characters: While the story primarily revolves around Ka Suo (Feng Suo) and Li Luo (Luo Luo), other characters like Yue Shen, Ying Kong Shi, Xing Jiu, and Pian Feng leave a lasting impression. Their individual arcs add depth to the narrative.

The Not-So-Good:

  1. Acting and Characterization: The female lead’s acting was off, and her character consistently bothered me throughout the 16 episodes. Even the rest of the Ice Fantasy cast didn’t perform as well as in the original series. The reincarnated versions of other tribe leaders lacked the elegance and impact of their previous incarnations.
  2. Messy Storyline: The plot occasionally becomes tangled and confusing. While some level of complexity is tolerable, “Ice Fantasy Destiny” could have benefited from better pacing and clearer storytelling.
  3. Ambiguous Ending: The drama attempts to create a quasi-happy ending in the last 15 minutes, but it falls short. Viewers who cried during the original “Ice Fantasy” finale might find themselves shedding even more tears here. The resolution leaves room for interpretation, neither fully sad nor truly happy.

Final Thoughts:

“Ice Fantasy Destiny” is a mixed bag. If you’re a die-hard fan of the original series or invested in Ka Suo and Li Luo’s relationship, you’ll find moments to appreciate. However, if you’re seeking a neatly tied-up ending or exceptional acting, this drama might not satisfy your expectations.

In the end, it’s a matter of personal preference. Proceed with caution, and decide whether the reincarnated fantasy world of “Ice Fantasy Destiny” is worth your time.
