A Warm Cup of Coffee on a Rainy Day
“I Need Romance (2021)” is a Thai drama that explores the complexities of love, relationships, and personal growth. While the storyline may not be groundbreaking, it manages to capture the essence of mature romance.
Plot and Characters
The drama follows Najai, a 33-year-old fashion marketing director at a home shopping channel company. She has built a tough exterior to succeed in the workplace after multiple failed relationships. However, her emotional walls begin to crumble when she meets Tofu, a younger man. The noona romance trope takes center stage as Najai grapples with accepting her feelings for Tofu.
Noona Romance and Emotional Depth
“I Need Romance (2021)” doesn’t rely on external factors to drive the plot. Instead, it delves into Najai’s internal struggle as she navigates her emotions. The drama focuses on her journey of self-discovery and vulnerability. While the storyline isn’t novel, it resonates with viewers who appreciate the nuances of older woman-younger man dynamics.
Chemistry and Slow-Paced Tone
The chemistry between the leads, New and Pancake, is palpable. New, in particular, shines with his co-stars. However, their chemistry lacks the burning intensity that some viewers might expect. The drama maintains a slow-paced tone, avoiding major highs and lows. It’s like sipping a warm cup of coffee on a rainy day—comforting and soothing.
Side Characters and Empathy
Even the antagonist characters have human elements, making them relatable. This approach adds depth to the story, allowing viewers to empathize with the choices made by both positive and negative characters. The drama doesn’t oversimplify relationships; instead, it portrays the complexities of human emotions.
Music and Atmosphere
The opening score in each episode complements the show perfectly. It sets a cozy ambiance, akin to the warmth of a coffee cup on a chilly day. The drama’s soundtrack enhances the emotional moments without overpowering them.
Final Thoughts
“I Need Romance (2021)” may not be a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but it offers a steady and heartfelt journey. If you’re a softie for cute romance and appreciate character-driven stories, this drama is worth a watch. New’s dazzling smile and the endearing side stories add to its charm.
