Synopsis
Tai Che Ni is a cheerful and diligent delivery worker in the year 2000. He has been given an item to deliver to a man named Hai Yi. But something very strange happens to him – and he suddenly finds himself transported 22 years into the future...to the year 2022! He finds Hai Yi, the young heir to a massively lucrative business group empire. At first, Tai Che Ni is utterly distraught by the fact that he has been brought to the year 2022 – and longs to return “home” to 2000. But as he begins to spend time with Hai Yi, he starts to become attracted to him – and discovers a tender side to the business heir that many of his acquaintances have never seen before. Could he find happiness here in 2022? Or will the pull of the past separate this duo? Meanwhile, love could also be set to bloom between a seemingly cold-hearted company manager Liang Wen Hsen, and the office’s newest recruit – a tender-hearted orphan named Lin Huai En.

HIStory5: Love in the Future (2022) is an intriguing addition to the HIStory series, offering a blend of romance, time travel, and youthful energy. While it has its flaws, there are moments that keep viewers engaged.
Let’s start with the positives. The chemistry between the second couple is sizzling. Their storyline is captivating, and their interactions are a highlight. However, when it comes to the main couple, things get a bit complicated. Time-travel narratives are like intricate recipes; if you’re going to use them, do it right. Unfortunately, HIStory5 stumbles in this aspect. The time-travel element feels confusing and lacks significant impact on the overall plot.
Now, let’s talk about Dai-Johnny, the male lead. His character comes across as annoying and somewhat childish. Worse yet, his kissing skills leave much to be desired. If you’re going to leap through time, at least learn how to kiss properly! Considering this is a BL (Boys’ Love) series, his lack of enthusiasm is disappointing. Additionally, the lack of skinship between the characters remains a mystery. Twenty episodes in, and we’re still waiting for some physical connection!
The plot also has its share of inconsistencies. How did the characters transition from living in a storage unit to working for Hai-yi’s dad’s company? The initial premise of Hai-yi running away from home and avoiding his father’s business seems forgotten. These missing details make the series a tad confusing, leaving viewers with numerous unanswered questions.
Despite its flaws, HIStory5: Love in the Future manages to avoid boredom. While it doesn’t quite match the spark of the original HIStory chemistry, it keeps us hanging on. Perhaps things will heat up in the next episode—only time (travel) will tell.
In summary, HIStory5: Love in the Future had potential but suffered from clichéd writing and missed opportunities. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s far from dull. If you’re a fan of time-travel romance with a dash of mystery, give it a shot. Just be prepared for a few bumps along the way.
