Dark Twists and Sweet Treats: Exploring the Dark Realities of High School in High Cookie
High Cookie takes viewers on a thrilling roller coaster ride from start to finish. This fast-paced dark drama consistently keeps you on the edge of your seat, revealing intricately twisted characters and a gripping storyline.
The show introduces Choi Sooyoung, a seemingly simple and naive high school student. However, as the plot unfolds, her layers peel away, revealing a complex character. Meanwhile, ML Hosu presents another rare gem—a character with a painful backstory and compelling reasons for his actions, even if they lean toward criminality.
High Cookie delves into the stressful lives of high schoolers, exploring how cookies serve as a means to fulfill their inner dreams. While romance takes a backseat, the scenes featuring Lee Eunsoo and Jin Woo are a delightful treat for viewers. Given the dark thriller theme, romantic elements are understandably limited.
Despite its strengths, the drama does have some downsides. Unrealistic scenarios, such as police investigations and Sooyoung’s improbable school admission, occasionally strain believability. Additionally, the production quality could have been better.
The standout performances of the cast members deserve applause. Nam Jihyun, Choi Hyunwook, Seo Bum June, Kim Mu Yeol, Jung Dabin, and others deliver compelling portrayals. The tragic ending, driven by FL’s greed, leaves a lasting impact. Many students, including Jinwoo and Hosu, meet their demise, while Minyoung takes on her sister’s life, working part-time, and Sooyoung disappears into hiding to bake cookies.
In conclusion, I recommend High Cookie to every thriller lover who enjoys high school settings and a gripping storyline. Despite its flaws, the show offers a unique blend of dark twists and sweet treats that will keep you hooked until the very end.
