A Roller Coaster of Love and Lies
“Hi! My Mr. Right” is a compact Chinese drama that packs a punch in just 24 episodes. While it promises a whimsical premise, it takes unexpected turns that leave viewers both intrigued and bewildered.
The story revolves around our female lead, a jewelry company designer who faces constant bullying from her colleagues. Her life takes an unusual twist when she receives a mysterious bracelet from a homeless-looking stranger. This bracelet grants her wishes, but with a catch: each lie she tells turns one of its beads black. She must make her male lead fall in love with her before she runs out of lies.
Sounds intriguing, right? Well, buckle up because this drama takes us on a wild ride through different boyfriend personalities. Let’s break it down:
- The Overbearing CEO: The first boyfriend personality is the classic overbearing CEO. He wants her by his side at all times, suffocating her independence. Chemistry? Not so much.
- The Milk Dog: The second boyfriend is sweet but immature and clingy. Imagine a puppy that won’t let go. Cute, but not exactly swoon-worthy.
- The Compulsive Psycho: Brace yourselves for the third boyfriend. He’s a master of romance but also super controlling and downright abusive. Yes, you read that right. This drama takes a dark turn, and suddenly, we’re questioning our protagonist’s taste in men.
And then, poof! The next boyfriend personality arrives, and the previous one is forgotten. It’s like a carousel of love interests, leaving us dizzy and disoriented. The lack of chemistry between the leads doesn’t help either. We’re too busy adjusting to the new boyfriend flavor to invest emotionally.
The concept of the bracelet and its consequences is intriguing, but the execution falls short. The drama tries to juggle too many elements—romance, fantasy, and character development—all within its short runtime. As a result, it feels rushed and disjointed.
Verdict: “Hi! My Mr. Right” had potential, but it lost its way. The abrupt shifts in boyfriend personalities left us scratching our heads. The female lead deserved better, and we hoped for a more satisfying resolution.
In the end, this drama is like a box of assorted chocolates—you never know what you’re going to get. Unfortunately, some of those chocolates are filled with unexpected bitterness.
Would I rewatch it? Definitely not. But hey, at least we got to see the male lead’s good figure. A wasted opportunity, indeed.
