“Hello My Girl” is a delightful youth light comedy that revolves around Yang Yi Shan, a Shanghai teenager who escapes from his aunt’s clutches in pursuit of freedom. He ends up attending school in the northeast, far away from Shanghai. Initially struggling to adapt to life in this unfamiliar place, Yang Yi Shan finds warmth and friendship through Zhao Duo Duo, a kind-hearted northeast girl, and her friends. Together, they navigate the challenges of growing up, love, and friendship.

Cinematography and Production: The drama’s cinematography and production quality are commendable. Even during winter scenes, the color palette remains rich, creating an aesthetically pleasing visual experience.

Music and Effects: The music is pleasant, although there are no standout sound effects. The focus seems to be on the characters and their interactions rather than flashy effects.

Message and Themes: “Hello My Girl” delivers a heartwarming message about taking one’s time to fall in love with the right person. It emphasizes cherishing friendships and appreciating the people who make life meaningful.

Acting and Character Development: The acting is decent overall, with the cast portraying their roles adequately. However, character development is somewhat lacking, especially for the main leads. The love story between Yang Yi Shan and Zhao Duo Duo feels more like puppy love, suitable for a younger audience.

Parental Characters: The parents of the main characters play a supporting role throughout the drama. Unfortunately, the writing for their characters in the last episode feels forced, with unnecessary tantrums that don’t align with their age.

Overall Impression: “Hello My Girl” is a light-hearted series suitable for viewers aged 10 and above. While it lacks passionate romance, its focus on friendship and innocence makes it a pleasant watch. However, if you’re seeking intense love stories, this drama may not be the best choice.

In summary, “Hello My Girl” captures the essence of youthful friendships and the slow-burning process of falling in love. Although it won’t be on my rewatch list, it’s a feel-good drama worth exploring.

Feel free to explore the drama on platforms like Viki, where you can watch it with English subtitles.
