A Disappointing Journey
Heartbeat, a South Korean drama that aired from June 26 to August 15, 2023, promised an intriguing blend of romance, comedy, fantasy, and mystery. With a decent cast and an interesting premise, expectations were high. However, as the series unfolded, it became clear that this drama would not live up to its potential.
Story (0/10): The writing was abysmal. The initial promise of romance, comedy, and fantasy elements quickly dissipated. Instead, viewers were subjected to a plot that dipped lower with each passing week. The ending, in particular, left much to be desired—worse than Bella Swan’s character and acting in Twilight (and that’s saying something).
Acting (7/10): The actors did their best with what they were given. Taec Yeon, known for his idol days with 2PM, and Kim In Kwon, an exemplary actor, couldn’t salvage the poorly written script. Despite their efforts, the overall result remained lackluster.
Music/OST: The music, while decent, lost its impact due to the weak writing. Even a good soundtrack couldn’t redeem the drama.
Overall (4/10): I give this drama a 4 out of 10, and that’s solely for the sake of the actors. The disappointment outweighed any enjoyment. Heartbeat had the ingredients for success, but the writers missed the mark entirely.
Verdict: Skip Heartbeat unless you want to share my regrets. As someone who usually enjoys airing dramas, this experience has made me reconsider. Perhaps binge-watching completed series is better for my sanity.
In summary, Heartbeat failed to deliver on its promising premise, leaving viewers with a bitter aftertaste. If you decide to watch it, tread carefully—your heart might break more than beat.
