Review

Gen Y Season 2 has its share of strengths and weaknesses:

Positives:

  1. Flashbacks: The series does well by including flashbacks to each couple from Season 1. This helps viewers recall past events and relationships, especially since there are many characters and complicated plots to keep track of.
  2. Cheesy and Tropes: Despite its flaws, the show embraces its cheesiness and tropes. If you’re a fan of classic BL elements, you might find enjoyment in the familiar themes and character dynamics.

Negatives:

  1. Lack of Plot: Unfortunately, there’s almost no plot development throughout the entire season. Viewers hoping for substantial character growth or engaging storylines will be disappointed. The writing often lacks coherence, leaving us wondering why we’re watching in the first place.
  2. Underdeveloped Main Character: Wayu, the main character, lacks agency and purpose. He merely reacts to situations rather than driving the narrative. His passivity mirrors some problematic seme-uke dynamics seen in BL dramas.
  3. Tame Romances: The romantic relationships remain tame, lacking depth and passion. For a series that revolves around love, the chemistry between characters falls short of expectations.

In summary, Gen Y Season 2 is a cute and sweet BL drama that leans heavily on familiar tropes. While it won’t win any awards for originality, fans of the genre may still find comfort in its predictability. However, if you’re seeking a more substantial plot and well-developed characters, you might want to explore other BL series.
