Editor's Review
Production and Innovation:
“First Love Again” marks a turning point in the Korean LGBTQI+ film industry. While not exceptionally outstanding, the production quality is commendable. The use of light and shadows is on-point, and the dialogues and monologues surpass the usual standards. The story feels less rushed, and we can expect similar dramas to be produced soon.
Plot:
The plot is unique and exciting. The soft pacing and the blend of comedy with a more serious story make it engaging. Both characters are relatable—ordinary citizens like you and me. Yeon Seok, the protagonist, remembers his incomplete love story and strives to make amends so that his consciousness can finally rest in peace. There are no superpowers; instead, we see multilayered personalities and sweet moments between Yeon Seok and Jeong Ha Yeon.
Acting and Cast:
Surprisingly, both main leads—Jeon Chang Ha and Jin Gun—make their first drama appearance on MyDramaList. Their solid performances, natural behavior, and facial expressions are impressive. The supporting cast also delivers satisfying performances. Special mention to Song Han Hee, who portrays Mikael—a genderfluid/non-binary character—effectively.
Overall:
“First Love Again” is a recommended watch. It showcases innovation and production quality, making it a significant step forward for Korean LGBTQI+ cinema. The drama’s harmonious execution and relatable characters contribute to its appeal. Whether you’re a fan of romance or LGBTQI+ themes, this drama won’t disappoint.
