Synopsis

After being found in 918, the kingdom of Goryeo faced a critical existential crisis when the powerful Yuan dynasty tried to subjugate them. In the fictional setting of this drama, a warrior living in the timeline of Goryeo meets a plastic surgeon living in the present day. The plastic surgeon gets kidnapped by the warrior who got an order from the king to find a doctor who can cure the fatally injured queen. The two individuals who were not meant to coexist are brought together to fight their way through the ordeals on the land of Goryeo. The warrior makes a promise that he will return her to her world, but a scheming royal advisor persuades the king to force the surgeon to stay as she can be useful to him. There, the surgeon falls in love with the warrior who is the leader of the royal guard. In this era of change and chaos, love that transcends time and space blooms.

“Faith” is a captivating time-travel story set in the Goryeo era. The show introduces us to a 21st-century plastic surgeon, Yoo Eun Soo, who gets kidnapped and transported 700 years into the past due to her healing powers. General Choi Yeong, a loyal bodyguard to the king, becomes entangled with Eun Soo as they navigate conflicts and intrigue in this historical fantasy.

The Good:

  1. Strong Cast: The lead actors deliver outstanding performances. Lee Min Ho portrays General Choi Yeong with depth and charisma, while Kim Hee Sun shines as the quirky and strong-willed Eun Soo. Their chemistry is palpable, making their interactions engaging.
  2. Unique Premise: The blend of time travel, romance, and supernatural elements adds freshness to the plot. The show explores themes of fate, power struggle, and loyalty.
  3. Character Development: Viewers witness significant character growth throughout the series. Choi Yeong’s transformation from a stoic warrior to someone who feels deeply is particularly well-executed.
  4. Beautiful Sets and Costumes: The production design captures the essence of the Goryeo era, with intricate costumes and detailed sets.

The Not-So-Good:

  1. Direction and Editing: While the storyline is intriguing, some scenes could have been better executed. Awkward editing and underutilization of fantasy elements occasionally detract from the overall experience.
  2. Music Placement: The soundtrack is excellent, but its integration into certain scenes feels forced at times.
  3. Unbalanced Moments: The drama juggles various genres—action, romance, politics—but doesn’t always strike a perfect balance. Some moments are stronger than others.

Overall: “Faith” may not be flawless, but its strengths outweigh the weaknesses. The character dynamics, unexpected twists, and historical backdrop make it an obsession-inducing watch. If you’re a fan of time-travel dramas with a touch of romance and intrigue, give “Faith” a chance.

Remember, this review is based on my own perspective, and opinions may vary. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply seeking an entertaining escape, “Faith” offers a unique blend of genres that’s worth exploring.

Feel free to explore this captivating drama and immerse yourself in the world of Goryeo!
