Editor's Review
Ex-Girlfriend Club is a delightful romantic comedy series that wrapped up on tvN with a sweet and feel-good vibe. Despite being dealt a disappointing cutback that shortened the show by four episodes, it managed to maintain its charm throughout.
The premise is refreshingly straightforward: Kim Su-jin (played by Song Ji-hyo), a movie producer, learns that her struggling indie film company is on the brink of collapse. Her last hope lies in adapting a webtoon into a rom-com film. But there’s a twist—the webtoon is based on her ex-boyfriend’s past relationships. And guess who the webtoon writer is? None other than her ex, Bang Myung-soo (played by Byun Yo-han).
Ex-Girlfriend Club doesn’t rely on big dramatic moments. Instead, it focuses on everyday interactions, relationships, and some seriously gut-busting comedy. The show’s brisk pace and humor keep it engaging, and the chemistry between the leads adds to its appeal.
Su-jin’s journey involves dealing with warring personalities, conflicting agendas, and having her ex back in her life—all while trying to keep the movie project afloat. Byun Yo-han’s portrayal of Myung-soo strikes the right balance between charming and flawed, making him a relatable character.
The drama’s strength lies in its simplicity. It’s a light-hearted rom-com that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The supporting cast adds depth, and the witty dialogues keep the audience entertained. While the show’s ratings may not have soared, its concise 12-episode length feels just right, preventing unnecessary angst or sluggish storytelling.
Ex-Girlfriend Club is a delightful escape—a reminder that sometimes, love stories don’t need grand gestures; they thrive on everyday moments and laughter. So if you’re in the mood for a heartwarming series, give this one a watch.
