A Romcom Rollercoaster

Edge to Happiness, a Chinese drama that aired from June 23 to July 13, 2016, takes viewers on a captivating journey through romance, inner demons, and unexpected twists. Here’s a review of this delightful series.

Story and Characters: At its core, Edge to Happiness begins as a romcom but evolves into a more complex narrative. The characters grapple with their inner struggles, leading to tearful quarrels, reunions, and unexpected revelations. Despite the occasional melodrama, the story remains believable.

The series introduces us to He Han and He Mu, both compelling male characters. He Han’s love line could have been more intricate, but his psychological motivations are portrayed convincingly. His transformation from a villainous figure to someone determined to rectify his past deeds adds depth to the plot. Meanwhile, He Mu’s character undergoes significant changes, initially appearing as a selfish rich boy but later revealing hidden layers.

Acting and Music: Ma Tian Yu, who plays He Mu, delivers a standout performance. His portrayal of the character, combined with an enchanting ending song, leaves a lasting impression. The song, associated with He Han and Zi Ji’s story, is both haunting and beautiful.

The female lead, while not infuriatingly silly, embodies the average girl-next-door. She’s cheerful, cute, and endearing, with her cactus serving as a symbol of love—reminding us that love isn’t without its thorns.

Overall Impression: Edge to Happiness offers a slightly glossy yet relatable portrayal of ordinary people’s lives. The ever-changing pairings keep the audience engaged, and the series strikes a balance between humor and heartfelt moments. While not groundbreaking, it’s a pleasant watch.

In summary, this romcom rollercoaster provides insights into love, growth, and the complexities of human relationships. If you’re looking for a heartwarming drama with relatable characters, give Edge to Happiness a try.
