Doctor Prisoner is a gripping revenge drama that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Set in a prison, it cleverly combines medical intrigue with intense mind games. The plot revolves around Dr. Na Yi Je (played by Nam Goong Min), a brilliant doctor who finds himself unjustly imprisoned. Determined to seek revenge, he navigates the dark corridors of power, outsmarting his adversaries at every turn.

What Works:

  1. Fast-Paced Plot: Doctor Prisoner wastes no time. The story unfolds swiftly, with characters constantly plotting against each other. If you enjoy intricate revenge tales, this drama delivers.
  2. Setting: The prison setting adds a unique twist. Dr. Na Yi Je’s battle takes place within the confines of the prison walls, where alliances shift and secrets abound.
  3. The Hate-Trio: The antagonists—Lee Jae Jun, Director Seon, and Dr. Na—are brilliantly portrayed. Their cat-and-mouse games keep viewers guessing.
  4. Choi Won Young’s Performance: Choi Won Young steals the show as Dr. Na. His control over expressions and body language is remarkable. He makes the character feel distinct despite playing a similar role before.

What Could Be Better:

  1. Flashbacks: While the plot flows smoothly, the frequent flashbacks disrupt the viewing experience. Less reliance on flashbacks would have improved the pacing.
  2. Inconsistent Tone: The comedy feels out of place. Tense moments are punctuated by characters laughing, which detracts from the overall mood.
  3. Underused Female Lead: The female lead’s potential remains untapped. Her character deserved more development.
  4. Predictable Conclusions: Some scenarios become predictable, dampening the suspense.

Verdict:

Doctor Prisoner is a rollercoaster of revenge, deception, and power struggles. Choi Won Young’s performance alone makes it worth watching. If you’re a fan of thrillers, dive into this medical drama set behind bars.
