“Divorce Lawyer in Love” is a delightful romantic comedy legal drama that manages to stand out in a sea of K-dramas. While it may not be a “must-watch,” it offers a refreshing take on the theme of marriage and romantic relationships.

The plot revolves around Go Cheok Hee (played by Cho Yeo Jeong), a fierce divorce lawyer at the peak of her career. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with So Jeong Woo, a legal rival who has the power to bring her down. As the story unfolds, we witness their professional and personal lives intertwine, leading to unexpected twists and turns.

Here’s what I appreciated about “Divorce Lawyer in Love”:

  1. Cohesive Plot: Unlike some dramas that lose their way midway, this one maintains a consistent and well-thought-out plot from start to finish. The storyline feels like a nice, cohesive whole, which is a rarity in the K-drama world.
  2. Strong Ending: K-drama endings can be hit or miss, but “Divorce Lawyer in Love” delivers. The last episode stands out as exceptionally good, avoiding the usual trainwreck pitfalls. The fact that the plot remains well-thought out until the end contributes to this success.
  3. Character Development: While I didn’t sense explosive chemistry between the lead characters, their individual growth and likability made up for it. Go Cheok Hee’s unexpected decision near the end adds depth to the theme of marriage and relationships. Without giving away spoilers, I’ll say that it bolsters the show’s overall message.
  4. Light and Enjoyable: The drama strikes a balance between humor and heart. It’s not overly dramatic, and the second female lead doesn’t resort to clichéd evil tricks. The music complements the moments well, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

In summary, “Divorce Lawyer in Love” may not have garnered much attention, but it deserves credit for its thoughtful plot and character-driven storytelling. If you’re looking for a romcom with substance, give this one a shot.

Please note that this review is based on my personal opinion, and individual preferences may vary. If you enjoy legal dramas with a touch of romance, “Divorce Lawyer in Love” is worth adding to your watchlist.
