“Discovery of Romance” is a drama that can evoke both positive and negative reactions from viewers. The central premise revolves around a love triangle: an ex-boyfriend reenters the female lead’s life, stirring up a whirlwind of emotions and complications. If you’re not a fan of love triangles, this drama might not be your cup of tea.

The initial episodes caught me off guard because I wasn’t expecting it to be a comedy. There are plenty of silly and comedic moments, especially due to Qin Jun Jie’s portrayal of the ex-boyfriend. Our three main leads aren’t necessarily lovable characters; they’re flawed, and the comedy doesn’t always paint them in the best light. However, if you stick around, you’ll discover that this drama delves into themes of healing, closure, self-discovery, following dreams, personal growth, and the complexities of real-life feelings.

Feelings aren’t always black and white, and the wishy-washiness of emotions and decisions is the most realistic aspect of relationships, especially in a love triangle. I stayed because I’m a fan of Janice Wu and Qin Jun Jie. Their chemistry is remarkable—the bickering is fun, but the emotional scenes are truly captivating. Even during calm business discussions, their chemistry simmers in the background.

The storytelling is intriguing. We learn about the male lead (ML) and female lead (FL) history by seeing how differently they remember past events. ML recalls only happy memories and wants to reunite with FL, while FL remembers only negative moments and wants nothing to do with ML. The flashbacks reveal a younger, more innocent version of the couple, portrayed brilliantly by Janice Wu and Qin Jun Jie.

In summary, “Discovery of Romance” is a rollercoaster of emotions, and if you’re patient enough to explore beyond the initial comedy, you’ll find a drama that beautifully captures the messiness of love and relationships.
