A Fluffy and Inconsistent Rom-Com
“Cute Bad Guy” is one of those dramas that’s a bit tricky to rate. It’s an easy binge with a mix of good humor, fluff, and some laugh-out-loud moments. However, it also has its fair share of inconsistencies, second-hand embarrassment, and cringe (and not always in a good way), especially in the first and last few episodes.
The story revolves around a slightly insane comic artist, her awesome friends, an emotionally lacking guy with amnesia, his pet alpaca (yes, you read that right), and a group of med students. As they get to know each other, they share meals, create love triangles, and navigate their quirky lives.
What Works:
- Humor and Fluff: The middle part of the drama shines. It’s filled with heartwarming moments, witty banter, and adorable interactions.
- Gif-Worthy Scenes: From the female lead thinking she’s invisible when covering her face to the alpaca munching on grass, carrots, and grapes, there are plenty of moments to turn into gifs.
What Doesn’t Work:
- Inconsistencies: The drama struggles with maintaining a consistent tone. Some episodes are delightful, while others fall flat.
- Annoying Female Lead: Our female lead, unfortunately, isn’t the most endearing character. She’s selfish, self-absorbed, and not particularly talented. Her friends would have made better female leads.
- Title Misdirection: Despite the title, the male lead isn’t really a “bad guy.” He’s innocent, caring, and school-smart—more cute than bad.
Overall Verdict: “Cute Bad Guy” is a decent watch if you’re in the mood for something light. Overlook the rough patches, enjoy the fluff, and appreciate the moments that make you smile. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s gif-worthy and provides a pleasant escape.
Would I recommend it? Sure, especially if you’re a fan of rom-coms and can forgive its flaws.
