A Whirlwind of Life and Love

Disclaimer: These are my personal thoughts, and I respect differing opinions.

“Crash Course in Romance” should perhaps be renamed “Crash Course in Life.” While it promises romance, it delivers much more—a blend of comedy, slice of life, and drama with a dash of thriller. Studio Dragon, known for its well-crafted shows, once again hits the mark.

The initial episodes had me hooked. The direction was promising, even with the overbearing moms. But somewhere along the way, the show took a predictable turn. Maybe watching it weekly affected my perception, but the excitement waned. Still, the comedy and heartwarming moments touched my soul.

At its core, the drama revolves around love and family. Haeng-seon and Chi-yeol’s relationship, once they got together, lost some of its spark. The romance took a backseat as they delved into unraveling mysteries and protecting their loved ones. Dong-hui’s suspicious behavior was evident from the start, and his ultimate fate left me unsatisfied.

Female leads being overly forgiving bothers me. Su Ah’s mom, despite her husband’s infidelity, didn’t evoke sympathy. Karma caught up with her, and it felt justified. Hae-e’s mom’s return from the shadows was predictable drama fare. Poor Hae-e, torn between duty and genuine feelings, faced a typical dilemma.

The drama’s strength lies in its ensemble cast. Their efforts shine through, regardless of the script. Love and family bonds resonate throughout, reminding us that these connections endure. Yet, the show missed the mark in sustaining the romance.

In summary, “Crash Course in Romance” is a solid 8-8.5/10. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, with highs and lows. While it may not be a pure romance, it’s a crash course in life—a lesson we all need.
