A Heartwarming Rom-Com with Unexpected Twists

“Boy for Rent” is a delightful Thai drama that blends romance, comedy, and life lessons into a heartwarming package. Set against the backdrop of a unique premise, this series introduces us to Smile, a college student with a crush on her handsome senior, Kyro. However, when she confesses her feelings, Kyro rejects her, claiming he doesn’t like childish girls. Determined to win his heart, Smile decides to hire a “Boy For Rent” to learn the art of capturing a man’s affections.

The drama unfolds as Smile navigates the complexities of love, friendship, and self-discovery. Here’s what makes “Boy for Rent” worth watching:

  1. Charming Characters: The cast shines in their respective roles. Fon Sananthachat Thanapatpisal portrays Smile with tenderness, making her relatable despite occasional moments of annoyance. Mond Tanutchai Wijitvongtong, who usually plays side characters, steps into a lead role as Kyro, proving his talent and charisma. The chemistry between Mond and Fon is palpable, leaving viewers rooting for them as a couple.
  2. The Boy For Rent Concept: The drama introduces a unique service where people can rent a man to learn about relationships. While the concept is intriguing, it could have been explored further. Kyro’s involvement as part-owner raises questions—why does he work instead of reaping profits? Badz’s storyline, tied to his sister, adds depth but lacks a detailed explanation. Despite these gaps, the drama keeps viewers engaged.
  3. Family Dynamics: Kyro and Liz, another central character, grapple with family issues. Their struggles are well-executed, adding emotional depth to the plot. Liz suspects her boyfriend, Badz, of cheating, leading her to use the Boy For Rent service for revenge. Little do they know that renting a man will change their lives forever.
  4. Eye Candy and OST: If you’re a fan of eye candy, Mond’s six-pack abs won’t disappoint. The drama also features a catchy OST that complements the romantic moments.

In summary, “Boy for Rent” balances humor, romance, and character growth. While Smile and Badz steal hearts as a couple, Kyro and Liz emerge as more fleshed-out characters. The drama’s strengths lie in its cast, chemistry, and emotional arcs. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted rom-com, give “Boy for Rent” a chance—it might just surprise you.
