A Light-Hearted Xianxia with an Interesting Premise
“Blooming” is a Chinese drama that blends elements of romance, fantasy, and martial arts. Set in a world of magic and sects, the story revolves around Zhao Tan Tan’s senior brother, who possesses a magical flower on his forehead. This flower gradually blooms when he experiences emotions, but its fate takes a dark turn when it falls into the hands of the devil.
The drama introduces an intriguing premise: a magical flower that responds to emotions. However, while the story idea is fresh and different from many other dramas, the execution falls somewhat short. Here’s a breakdown of the key aspects:
- Story (8.0/10): The initial episodes are entertaining, with an engaging storyline. However, as the drama progresses, inconsistencies emerge. It feels like different scriptwriters pulled the story in conflicting directions. Logic and coherence suffer, leading to moments where characters’ actions defy established rules. For instance, characters who should be in a hurry are seen leisurely strolling through the woods. Despite these flaws, the overall story remains interesting.
- Acting/Cast (8.5/10): The main cast delivers commendable performances. Alen Feng, in particular, shines in a role that suits him better than his usual stiff characters. The chemistry between the leads keeps viewers engaged, even during the less exciting parts.
- Music (3.5/10): Unfortunately, the music doesn’t leave a lasting impression. It lacks the emotional impact needed to elevate critical scenes.
- Rewatch Value (5.0/10): While the drama has its moments, the uneven pacing and lackluster final episodes diminish its rewatch appeal. Fans of light-hearted xianxia may revisit it, but others might not find it worth a second viewing.
In summary, “Blooming” offers an interesting concept but falls short in execution. Despite its flaws, the good acting by the main cast keeps it afloat. If you’re a fan of magical tales and can overlook some inconsistencies, give this drama a try.
