A Mixed Bag of Romance and Frustration
“Beyond the Star” is an eight-episode Thai drama that promises a blend of romance, music, and youthful energy. Unfortunately, while it hits some high notes, it ultimately falls flat in several areas.
The Good: Music and Acting
The drama’s soundtrack is a standout feature. The music is emotive, enhancing key scenes and evoking the right emotions. The acting, too, is commendable. The cast delivers solid performances, especially the established couple, whose chemistry shines through.
The Bad: Too Many Characters and an Unfinished Finale
The drama’s biggest flaw lies in its overcrowded character roster. With nine main actors and fourteen supporting roles, it’s hard to keep track of everyone. The show needed to trim down the cast and focus on fewer characters or couples. The finale, unfortunately, is one of the worst I’ve seen. Plot threads are dropped, and resolutions are scarce. It’s like leaving a jigsaw puzzle unfinished.
The Plot and Pacing
The story starts promisingly, but it loses momentum as it progresses. The pacing drags, especially during rival company subplots and dance practice scenes. Viewers may find themselves reaching for the fast-forward button.
Content Warnings and NSFW Scenes
Be prepared for non-consensual video recording, slaps, and manhandling. The drama also hints at a love triangle, which can be annoying if not well-executed.
Recommendations
If you decide to watch “Beyond the Star,” prioritize the established couple and their intimate moments. Here’s a quick guide:
- Episode 1: Established couple’s sniff kisses (14 minutes).
- Episode 2: Window seat fun (32 minutes).
- Episode 3: Tub fun (5 minutes).
- Episode 4: Established couple flirting (22 minutes) and shopping (33 minutes).
- Episode 5: Couch fun (16 minutes) and brief kisses (33 minutes).
- Episode 6: Foot-injured couple’s confession, sniff kiss, and bed scene (36 minutes).
- Episode 7: NSFW scenes (24 minutes to 33 minutes).
Final Thoughts
“Beyond the Star” had potential, but it fizzled out. If only they’d focused on quality over quantity, we might have had a more satisfying ending. As it stands, the drama leaves us with a pinky promise not to cheat—a weak resolution for a drama that promised so much more.
