A Whimsical Blend of Romance and Cuisine
“Believe in Love” is a unique blend of historical romance, culinary delights, and a touch of xianxia elements. Set against a picturesque island backdrop, this drama weaves a tale of love, reincarnation, and hidden secrets.
Plot Summary: Lu Yue Er (played by Zheng He Hui Zi) is a spirited 17-year-old city girl who runs a humble noodle restaurant. Despite facing oppression from her stepmother, Yue Er maintains an optimistic outlook on life. Enter Hua Yi Nan (portrayed by Huang Sheng Chi), the handsome 20-year-old Lord of Huajian Island. Popular among the people, he harbors a hidden dark side. When family circumstances and Hua Yi Nan’s pursuit lead to their marriage, Yue Er’s life takes an unexpected turn. Little does she know that Hua Yi Nan’s true purpose is tied to the island’s inheritance.
What Works:
- Character Dynamics: The chemistry between the leads, Hua Yi Nan and Lu Yue Er, feels genuine and touching. Their past-life connection adds depth to their relationship.
- Culinary Theme: Food plays a central role, and the drama tantalizes viewers with mouthwatering dishes.
- Slow-Burning Romance: While some may find the pacing slow, the prolonged romance appeals to die-hard romance fans.
- Xianxia Elements: Towards the end, mystical elements emerge, adding intrigue and excitement.
What Could Be Better:
- Comedy: Despite being labeled as a comedy, the humor falls flat, leaving viewers wanting more laughs.
- Acting: Some supporting actors lack finesse, affecting overall performance.
- Final Episode: The love triangle and xianxia fight in the last episode feel a tad absurd.
Verdict: “Believe in Love” isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s an easy watch. If you’re a romance enthusiast, the slow-burning love story and culinary backdrop will keep you engaged. Just be prepared for a whimsical ending that blends reality and fantasy.
In summary, “Believe in Love” serves up a delightful mix of romance, noodles, and a dash of magic. While it won’t leave you breathless, it’s a comforting drama to unwind with after a long day.
