A Delightful Blend of Realism and Sci-Fi

“Be My Favorite” is a charming drama that skillfully combines realism, a touch of sci-fi, and heartfelt moments. With its engaging characters and well-crafted storyline, this series manages to leave a lasting impression.

1. The Balance of Realism and Sci-Fi: The show’s premise revolves around a musical crystal ball that transports the protagonist, Botkawi, back in time to his eighteen-year-old self. As he grapples with the consequences of his actions, we witness a delicate balance between the everyday struggles of young adulthood and the intriguing sci-fi element. The blend of these genres keeps viewers hooked throughout the twelve episodes.

2. Realistically Flawed Characters: Both Botkawi and his love interest, Praemai, are refreshingly flawed. They learn and grow as the series unfolds. Kawi actively acknowledges his imperfections and works on them, while Praemai faces her own challenges. Their character development feels authentic and relatable.

3. Communication Matters: One standout aspect is the emphasis on communication. Unlike many dramas, where misunderstandings drive the plot, “Be My Favorite” showcases adults who talk openly with each other. This refreshing approach adds depth to the characters and their relationships.

4. Social Issues and Real-Life Struggles: The series subtly addresses social issues without being preachy. For instance, it highlights the lack of medical privileges for same-sex couples. Additionally, the portrayal of dreams falling apart and the consequences of our actions resonates with viewers.

5. Heartfelt Moments: The touching scenes involving Kawi’s relationship with his father tug at the heartstrings. The show doesn’t shy away from portraying the mistakes we make and the impact they have on our lives.

6. Pear: A Fully Developed Character: Pear, Kawi’s friend, defies clichés. She’s a fully developed human being with her own complexities. Her interactions with Kawi and Max add depth to the narrative.

7. Minor Quibbles: While the series excels overall, a few minor points could be improved:

  • Kawi’s obsession with being with Pear occasionally makes him appear selfish.
  • Some episodes drag a bit.
  • Certain camera angles during kissing scenes could be better.

8. The Verdict: “Be My Favorite” is a delightful watch. It’s addictive, heartwarming, and thought-provoking. Whether you’re a fan of romance, sci-fi, or character-driven dramas, this series has something to offer.

In summary, “Be My Favorite” strikes a perfect balance between realism and fantasy, making it a memorable addition to the drama landscape.
