Editor's Review
“Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun” Season 2 exceeded all expectations, delivering an exceptional storyline that moved forward seamlessly. As a viewer, I was captivated by the vast tale and the intricate web of characters.
Plot and Storytelling:
The plot of the entire show, combining both seasons, was expansive and intricately woven. It skillfully tied up loose ends, leaving no stone unturned. The drama was filled with thrilling plot twists and goosebump-inducing moments. What truly impressed me was the skillful utilization of every character, not just the main leads but also the supporting cast. Each character had a compelling story arc, and their development was executed brilliantly.
Character Dynamics:
The presence of strong characters, both main and supporting, elevated the show. When I heard that Lee Joongi and Shin Sekyung were replacing Song Joongki and Kim Jiwon in the main lead roles, I had mixed feelings. However, as I watched Season 2, Lee Joongi’s casting for adult Eunseom and Saya grew on me. His portrayal convinced me that he was the best choice for these characters. Shin Sekyung, as Tanya, matured significantly over the 8-10 years portrayed in the drama. Her performance showcased her prowess as the queen of sageuk.
Standout Performances:
Jang Dong Eun and Kim Ok Bin were the souls of the show. Tagon’s character gained prominence in the second half, and Taelha consistently delivered from episode 1. The episode where Tagon and Taelha teamed up to save Arok from the kidnapper tribe remains my favorite. Kim Ok Bin’s portrayal deserves special mention; she is a fabulous actress who should explore more female-centric shows.
Music and Atmosphere:
The BGMs and OSTs in Season 2 were exceptional. They surpassed the Season 1 OSTs. “Chosen One” by Forestella and “Knock Down The Giant” by Twlv were goosebump-inducing whenever they played in the background. The music added depth to the epic storytelling.
Conclusion:
“Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun” Season 2 delivered a satisfying conclusion. Despite the challenges posed by the lackluster first season and significant casting changes, it lowered the entry barrier for viewers. Occasionally, the narrative got bogged down by difficult-to-understand terms and an excess of characters, but overall, it was a commendable continuation of the saga.
In summary, “Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun” elevated the epic genre, leaving a lasting impression on its audience.
