Lee Joon is back as Min Do Hyuk in the Korean drama Escape of the Seven: Resurrection (2024). Despite the success of the first season, Lee Joon encountered new challenges during the filming of the second season.
In a written interview with IDN Times, Lee Joon discussed how he adjusted his voice and expressions to better convey his character’s emotions. Additionally, he learned techniques to prevent injuries during action scenes.
1. Evolving Min Do Hyuk’s Character
Lee Joon acknowledged the shift in Min Do Hyuk’s character from the first season to Escape of the Seven: Resurrection. While Min Do Hyuk was portrayed as cheerful in the initial season, he adopts a more mature demeanor in the sequel.
“In the first season, Min Do Hyuk may have seemed jolly, but in the second season, he’s driven by revenge, becoming more serious and mature,” said Lee Joon.
The drastic transformation posed challenges for Lee Joon, requiring him to alter his tone of voice and expressions.
“Given the 180-degree change in character, I had to modify my voice and expressions to convey a more reserved and mature demeanor,” he added.
2. Challenges of Action Scenes and Emotional Depth
Lee Joon received acclaim for his action sequences in the first season of Escape of the Seven. In the second season, he faced numerous demanding action scenes along with the task of portraying complex emotions.
“Some scenes were quite challenging, requiring me to sustain emotional depth for extended periods. Despite this, I gave my best in executing various action sequences,” explained the former MBLAQ member.
While injuries were inevitable during certain action scenes, Lee Joon adopted a strategy to mitigate risks.
“Injuries are sometimes unavoidable, even with caution. I learned to refrain from exerting excessive force and instead allow my body to move naturally,” shared Lee Joon.
3. Hinting at Min Do Hyuk and Han Mo Ne’s Relationship
The romantic subplot between Min Do Hyuk (Lee Joon) and Han Mo Ne (Lee Yoo Bi) in the first season captivated audiences. However, Mo Ne’s betrayal complicated their relationship dynamics.
In Escape of the Seven: Resurrection, Mo Ne finds herself forced into marriage with Hwang Chan Sung (Lee Jung Shin) despite her lingering feelings for Min Do Hyuk.
When questioned about the fate of their relationship, Lee Joon remained cryptic, suggesting that it would unfold gradually.
“Unlike the first season, where their relationship was more straightforward, I believe revealing their dynamic indirectly adds intrigue to Escape of the Seven: Resurrection,” concluded Lee Joon.
Escape of the Seven: Resurrection comprises 16 episodes. Will Min Do Hyuk succeed in his quest for revenge?
