A Disappointing Melodrama

“House of Stars” promised intrigue, glamour, and a peek behind the scenes of the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver on these expectations. From lackluster acting to a convoluted plot, this drama left me wanting more—just not in a good way.

The initial trailer hinted at darkness and sensuality, but the actual series falls flat. The acting feels forced, the writing lacks depth, and the overall execution disappoints. As the drama progresses, it becomes clear that it doesn’t know what it wants to be: a snapshot of actors’ lives, a romance, a murder mystery, or a revenge saga. The result is a mishmash of genres that fails to engage.

The pacing exacerbates the problem. For most of the drama, it moves at a glacial pace, with filler scenes that serve little purpose. Romantic relationships barely progress, leaving viewers frustrated. The love triangle between Pitch, Gun, and Soh feels like a never-ending loop, and even Weyha and Wayu’s relationship struggles to hold interest.

At the halfway point, I contemplated dropping the series. Nothing seemed to happen, and the tedium was unbearable. Only in Episode 10 does the murder plot finally kick in, but by then, it’s too little, too late. Rushed storytelling in the final episodes leaves loose ends and an unsatisfying conclusion.

The drama’s identity crisis extends to its themes. Fame, jealousy, love, and revenge all jostle for attention, but none receive proper exploration. The lack of focus makes the narrative confusing and ultimately boring. Had the murder subplot been introduced earlier, “House of Stars” might have salvaged some interest.

The ending—neither a cliffhanger nor a resolution—hints at a second season. But after enduring this disaster, I won’t be tuning in. Subpar writing and acting cripple what could have been a compelling drama. It joins the ranks of forgettable shows that squander their potential.

In summary, “House of Stars” is a drama to avoid. Save your time for more rewarding series. Perhaps the real stars here are the ones who manage to scrub this memory from their brains.
