A Mixed Bag of Drama and Nostalgia
Introduction: Filmed several years ago, Blooming Days carries an air of nostalgia reminiscent of past harem and palace dramas, especially in its initial episodes. The story revolves around Luo Qinglian, who unexpectedly finds herself forced into the role of a servant-concubine for the third son of Prince An. Her journey of survival in the treacherous world of He Lianxin’s household begins.
The Good:
- Acting and Cast:
- The drama boasts a seasoned cast, including several veteran actors. Their performances are commendable, bringing depth and authenticity to their characters.
- The chemistry between the actors adds to the overall appeal.
- Light-Hearted Moments:
- Blooming Days offers plenty of funny and light-hearted moments. These provide a pleasant break from the more intense scenes.
The Not-So-Good:
- Choppy Editing and Unfinished Arcs:
- Unfortunately, the drama falls short due to choppy editing. Some arcs remain unfinished, leaving viewers with unanswered questions.
- Certain characters are introduced and then disappear without explanation, which is frustrating given the time spent developing them.
- Character Development:
- The prince’s lack of faith in his sons’ abilities is a recurring theme. However, the sudden shift in his confidence toward the third son feels contrived.
- Villains seemingly get away with their misdeeds, despite evidence against them. This undermines the tension and suspense.
- Random Plot Additions:
- The drama introduces a seemingly random arc toward the end, where the main characters stand together like Avengers. This addition feels out of place and detracts from the overall coherence.
Final Verdict:
Blooming Days had immense potential, given its talented cast and intriguing premise. However, inconsistent character arcs, unresolved plotlines, and abrupt shifts in character dynamics hinder its impact. While it’s watchable as background entertainment, it falls short of being a standout drama.
