8 First Korean Films to Reach 10 Million Viewers in the Last Decade

The film industry in South Korea is showing signs of recovery post the COVID-19 pandemic. Several films have recently crossed the 10 million viewers mark, which is promising news considering the challenges faced in previous years.

Over the past decade, eight Korean films have achieved the milestone of reaching 10 million viewers for the first time. The year 2024 has seen another addition to this list with “Exhuma,” breaking records in just 32 days in Korea and also gaining 2 million viewers in Indonesia.

 

1. Exhuma:

This film reached 10 million viewers in Korea within 32 days and also garnered 2 million viewers in Indonesia.

2. The Roundup: No Way Out (2023)

Featuring Lee Joon Hyuk and Munetaka Aoki as the antagonists, this film hit the 10 million viewers mark in 2023.

3. The Roundup (2022)

Son Suk Ku starred in this film, which also achieved the milestone of reaching 10 million viewers in 2022.

4. Extreme Job (2019)

Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, this film reached 10 million viewers, followed by “Parasite” in the same year.

5. Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days (2018)

Despite its August release, this film became the first to attract 10 million viewers in 2018.

6. A Taxi Driver (2017)

Starring Song Kang Ho, this film managed to captivate a total of 12.1 million viewers.

7. Train to Busan (2016)

Not only the first to cross 10 million viewers, but this film also stood as the sole achiever of this feat in 2016.

8. Ode to My Father (2015)

Released towards the end of 2014, this film reached 10 million viewers in early 2015, marking a significant milestone.
