Every May 5th since 1945, South Korea has joyously celebrated Children’s Day. This year, on Sunday (5/5/2024), numerous Korean artists joined in the festivities through various activities. Among them, donating to children in need stands out.
On Children’s Day, donations typically flow to hospitals, related institutions, and UNICEF. One such artist, IU, renowned for her generosity, upheld this tradition. Below is a list of South Korean artists who donated to honor Children’s Day 2024.
1. IU
IU, known for her regular acts of kindness, once again shared her warmth to mark Children’s Day. This time, she donated 100 million won to the Green Umbrella Foundation in her and her fans’ name, UAENA. EDAM Entertainment, IU’s agency, shared a confirmation letter from the Green Umbrella Foundation, expressing IU’s desire for all children to feel loved and grow into healthy adults.
2. Ahn Hyo Seop
Actor Ahn Hyo Seop, recognized for his roles in Business Proposals (2022) and Dr. Romantic (2016—2023), also celebrated Children’s Day with a donation. He contributed 50 million won to support children worldwide, as announced by the UNICEF Korea Committee. These funds aid children affected by war, disasters, poverty, and disease, ensuring their happiness and well-being, according to Cho Min Jin, UNICEF’s Secretary General.
3. Hongjoong ATEEZ
Hongjoong from ATEEZ donated 50 million won to World Vision, aiming to support young people in various aspects like family care, livelihood, education, and medical and psychological assistance. His donation reflects his desire to share the love received from fans and bring happiness to children.
4. Go Min Si
Actress Go Min Si, under Mystic Story’s management, donated 50 million won to Seoul Asan Medical Center. Her donation aims to enhance medical and surgical assistance for vulnerable children, promoting their happiness and health.
5. Chanyeol EXO
Chanyeol, a member of EXO known for his cheerful demeanor, donated 20 million won through the Snail of Love association. This contribution supports deaf children and celebrates Children’s Day. Chanyeol expressed gratitude for the opportunity to donate again, hoping for improved conditions for children undergoing cochlear implant surgery.
6. Kim Go Eun
Actress Kim Go Eun contributed 50 million won to children’s hospitals to improve care, as reported by Herald Pop. Her consistent donations since 2021 have aided children facing chronic illnesses and financial hardships. Kim Go Eun expressed her joy in making a difference in children’s lives and vowed to continue giving back to her fans.
