5 Korean Artists Who Are Also Book Writers: Multitalented!


Becoming a Korean actor is no easy feat. Throughout the filming process, promotional work, and numerous interviews, Korean actors lead busy lives, leaving little time for other pursuits beyond drama or film production.

However, amidst their hectic schedules, some of these actors find time to pursue writing. Surprisingly, several of their books have found success in the market, even reaching foreign audiences. Let’s take a look at who they are!

1. So Ji Sub

Esteemed actor So Ji Sub has contributed significantly to Korean cinema through dramas and films. But did you know he’s also an author?

So Ji Sub’s book is an essay collection complemented by photos from his 13-year journey to the DMZ area and Gangwon province. Just ten days after its publication, the book became a bestseller. His portrayal of Gangwon province earned him the title of Goodwill Ambassador. In 2012, the Gangwon government even named a street after him.

2. Koo Hye Sun

Indonesian drama fans are likely familiar with Geum Jan Di (Koo Hye Sun) from “Boys Over Flowers” (2009). Besides acting, Koo Hye Sun is also an accomplished author.

Some of her books include “Tango” and “Heart-Shaped Tears,” romantic novels inspired by her own love story. These novels are available in Indonesian bookstores.

3. Jang Geun Suk

Actor Jang Geun Suk is known for his versatility, having started in the entertainment industry as a child model. Fluent in Korean, English, and Japanese, he’s also delved into the culinary world, publishing a recipe collection titled “Jang Gun Suk: Love Recipes” in 2013, featuring 20 of his own creative recipes.

4. Eugene

Former SES member Eugene, known as Kim Yoo Jin, has found success both in girl group stardom and acting, notably in “The Penthouse” (2021). Additionally, she’s an author.

In 2009, Eugene published “Eugene’s Beauty Secrets,” followed by “Eugene’s Get It Beauty” in 2011 and “Eugene’s Beauty Recipe” in 2013. She also translated the children’s book “The Night World” by Mordicai Gerstein into English in 2017, inspired by reading to her own child.

5. Moon Ga Young

Actress Moon Ga Young, recently acclaimed for her appearance at Milan Fashion Week 2024 as Dolce & Gabbana’s first ambassador from Asia, is also an author.

She announced the release of her prose collection book, “Pata,” on February 19, 2024. “Pata” chronicles Moon Ga Young’s journey to self-discovery and her quest for courage to explore the world around her. The book is set to be released on March 6, 2024. Moon Ga Young hopes readers will enjoy the protagonist’s perspective on the world.
