The Korean drama “Wonderful World” highlights the story of Eun Soo Hyun (Kim Nam Joo), whose life changed drastically when her son, Kang Gun Woo (Lee Joon), died after being hit by Kwon Ji Woong (Oh Man Seok), a representative from Jaehwa Construction. Kwon Ji Woong received legal relief due to an accidental collision and lack of evidence.
Eun Soo Hyun also begged Kwon Ji Woong on her knees to sincerely apologize to Kang Geun Woo. However, Kwon Ji Woong refused, claiming the mistake was not his fault. Unable to accept this, Eun Soo Hyun hit Kwon Ji Woong, leading to his death.
As a consequence of her actions, Eun Soo Hyun was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Upon her release, she still faces several life problems. So, what conflicts is Eun Soo Hyun facing? Here’s the review.
1. Eun Soo Hyun is still grieving:
Even though a decade has passed, Eun Soo Hyun cannot reconcile with the loss of her child. After being released from prison, she went straight to the cemetery, where she lay down until she realized it had rained that day. Seeing items left by Kang Gun Woo or encountering young children still brings her to tears. Eun Soo Hyun blames herself, particularly remembering the judge’s decision that she was negligent in supervising her only son. However, she remains certain that she securely locked the gate.
2. Struggles in dealing with Kwon Seon Yul:
Jang Hyung Ja (Kang Ae Shim), Eun Soo Hyun’s prison colleague, entrusted her with delivering a notebook to Kwon Seo Yul (Cha Eun Woo). Before her death, Jang Hyung Ja revealed burning down the apartment where Kwon Seo Yul’s family lived, which left her embittered after witnessing her husband’s infidelity there. Despite Kwon Seo Yul’s initial anger upon meeting Eun Soo Hyun, she persists in trying to convince her to accept the notebook.
3. Facing negative public perception:
As a renowned writer married to a news anchor, Eun Soo Hyun’s life is intertwined with media coverage. The media continued covering her even after her son’s death and imprisonment, leading to widespread awareness of her situation. Upon her release, she faced negative comments and ostracization due to the stigma of being a murderer.
4. Hostility from Jung Myeong Hee:
Jung Myeong Hee (Gil Hae Yeon), Eun Soo Hyun’s mother-in-law and Kang Su Ho’s (Kim Kang Woo) mother, harbors resentment towards Eun Soo Hyun for her role in Kang Gun Woo’s death. Despite appearing cordial in public, Jung Myeong Hee expresses her disdain for Eun Soo Hyun in private, fearing Kang Su Ho’s potential resentment towards her.
5. Discovering her husband’s infidelity:
During an interview with Kang Su Ho, Eun Soo Hyun receives an envelope containing photos revealing her husband’s affair. Confronting Kang Su Ho, she is shocked by his betrayal and remains curious about the identity of the other woman.
