Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung) is the main character in the drama Captivating the King. Even though she was born as the only daughter of a nobleman, she had to face many misfortunes. One of them, he often finds himself in life and death situations.

1. Threatened with being killed by Yoo Hyun Bo (episode 1)
In episode 1, Kang Hee Soo saved Hongjang (Han Dong Hee) who was beaten by Yoo Hyun Bo. At that time, Kang Hee Soo was disguised as a baduk gambling man. He threw the baduk game board to stop Yoo Hyun Bo’s action.
Yoo Hyun Bo has a grudge against Kang Hee Soo for protecting Hongjang. The man ordered his servant and personal bodyguard to attack and kill Kang Hee Soo. Fortunately, at that time, Yi In (Jo Jung Suk) came to save the girl. However, Yi In was injured in the arm as a result of being hit by a sword.
2. Wounded by royal troops (episode 4)
Kang Hee Soo and Hongjang were caught up in the slander directed at Yi In in episode 4. Both were accused of being accomplices to the Qing Dynasty spies. They were detained and tortured. However, Yi In broke his promise and did not release them due to a tragedy that occurred at the palace.
While heading to the place of punishment outside the city, Hongjang died. Sad and angry to see his friend killed, Kang Hee Soo ran away. The royal troops chased him and hit his back with a sword. Kang Hee Soo then fell into a ravine and almost died if he had not been saved by Jageunnyeon (Song Sang Eun), Se Dong (Jung Suk Yong), and Jeomine (Ko Su Hee).
3. Fight with members of the Special Firearms Unit (episode 7)
After Hongjang’s death, Kang Hee Soo was determined to take revenge on Yi In. He disguised himself as a man again and took part in a competition until he won and became a gidaeryeong who was close to King Yi In. As gidaeryeong, he went to the anniversary of the previous king’s death.
The day before the previous king’s death anniversary, royal troops, including the Special Firearms Unit, carried out training exercises. One of them is by practicing fighting. At that time, Kang Hee Soo joined in. However, his opponent was paid by Yoo Hyun Bo to attack Kang Hee Soo. Luckily, Yi In came to save him. Even so, the girl was injured in the back.
4. Hit by Chu Dal Ha’s knife (episode 13)
Kang Hee Soo’s revenge plan almost came to fruition in episode 13. He was tasked with inviting Yi In to meet him outside the palace. Then, Chu Dal Ha (Na Hyun Woo) will attack Yi In using a knife.
At the moment of the attack, Kang Hee Soo changed his mind. He already loves Yi In and tries to protect her. Finally, he was hit by Chu Dal Ha’s sword until he was unconscious for a night. Fortunately, he regained consciousness and recovered quickly.
Several times Kang Hee Soo was seriously injured and almost died in Korean dramas Captivating the King. This dangerous situation which once threatened his life ultimately made Kang Hee Soo much tougher and stronger. He finally succeeded in defeating his opponent and won happy ending with Yi In.
