1. Seong Chil
In Chief Detective 1958, Seong Chil (played by Eom Jun Gi) is the grandson of grandmother Ho (Cha Mi Kyung), who runs a tteokbokki shop at Jeongnam Market. One day, he intervened to help his grandmother when she was being harassed by gangsters. Shortly after, he became the target of their violence.
Despite his death, no one dared to testify. Eventually, after an autopsy and with the assistance of Geum Ok (Kim Seo An), the culprits were identified as three members of the Dongdaemun gang.
Detective Park Yeong Han (Lee Je Hoon) and his team faced obstacles as they were denied permission to arrest the criminals. Eventually, Yeong Han devised a plan involving an American soldier colleague, enabling them to apprehend the wrongdoers.
2. Kidnapping of Babies and Orphanage Children
A distraught mother reported to Jongnam Police Station that her baby had vanished while sleeping. Shockingly, it wasn’t just her child—other babies and children had disappeared too.
Investigations revealed that Audrey (Kim Soo Jin), the orphanage director and secretary of the Liberal Party Women’s Association, was behind the abductions. She intended to sell the children after subjecting them to abuse and, in some cases, killing those with deformities.
Audrey proved difficult to apprehend due to her subordinates’ silence and support from the party chairman. However, a child from the orphanage eventually revealed the truth, leading to Audrey’s arrest.
3. Yu Dae Cheon
Yu Dae Cheon (Choi Deok Moon), the leader of the Jongnam Police Station Investigation Unit One and superior to Park Yeong Han (Lee Je Hoon), also fell victim. Astonishingly, a senior commissioner from the same police station attempted to assassinate him. The motive? Dae Cheon knew a secret that threatened the senior commissioner’s chances of promotion.
The senior commissioner enlisted help by promising a promotion, resulting in Dae Cheon being tortured until he lost consciousness. Fortunately, just as Yeong Han was about to arrest the senior commissioner, Dae Cheon regained consciousness and thwarted the attempt.
Chief Detective 1958 portrays numerous victims of ruling greed, including the three individuals above who endured tragic circumstances.
