Right from the beginning, the marriage between Baek Hyun Woo (played by Kim Soo Hyun) and Hong Hae In (played by Kim Ji Won) captured the audience’s attention in Queen of Tears. However, to everyone’s surprise, they divorced in episode 8. Nevertheless, this divorce turned out to have several benefits in episodes 9 and 10.
The divorce of this couple deeply saddened the audience. Yet, when the villains attempted to seize the Hong family’s wealth, Baek Hyun Woo and Hong Hae In’s separation brought about several advantages. Here are three of them.
1. Baek Hyun Woo’s Personal Assets Remained Unfrozen
In the drama, Yoon Eun Sung (played by Park Sung Hoon) and Moh Seul Hee (played by Lee Mi Sook) orchestrated Chairman Hong Man Dae’s (played by Kim Kap Soo) downfall, becoming the primary shareholders of Queens Group. With Yoon Eun Sung taking over as the new chairman, the Hong family was ousted from their home, and their assets were frozen, leaving them penniless.
Fortunately, due to his divorce from Hong Hae In, Baek Hyun Woo is no longer considered part of the Hong family. Consequently, he can continue working at Queens Group without fear of losing his assets, including savings and cars. This enables him to fulfill his promise of helping Hong Hae In’s family financially.
2. Baek Hyun Woo Can Feign Indifference While Investigating
The divorce on paper provides Baek Hyun Woo with the freedom to pretend to have a strained relationship with Hong Hae In. Despite being the subject of office gossip, he endures it all to assist Hong Hae In. No one suspects that he’s aiding his ex-wife’s family.
At work, Baek Hyun Woo feigns confusion and appears preoccupied with finding a new job. However, behind the scenes, he secretly investigates an investment fraud case that led to the Hong family’s bankruptcy. He pretends to be subservient to Yoon Eun Sung’s leadership while actively seeking a way to thwart him.
